ISLE OF WIGHT: AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY INTERNATIONAL SCOOTER RALLY 2013

This weekend was the the Isle of Wight International Scooter Rally 2013 which the Lovely's Vintage Emporium team attended.

For those of you reading this who do not know who we are, we are an online vintage fashion website that won the UK's Best Online Vintage Fashion Shop trophy at The National Vintage Awards in June.

The Isle of Wight Scooter Rally, organised by the British Scooter Rally Association and The VFM Scooter Collective, started back in 1980 and every August approximately six thousand people head to the Island on their scooters.

There are fairs selling clothing and scooter accessories, live music, parties, competitions and a mass 'scooter ride-out' whereby thousands of scooters all travel around the Island from 1pm on the Sunday.

Scooter rallies first started in the early 1950s when Italian scooters, such as Vespa's and Lambretta's, started becoming popular in the UK. In the 1960s it was the Mods who started going to seaside towns across the UK on their scooters and by the 1970s it was still popular and continued to increase during the 1980s when there was a Mod Revival heralded by bands such as The Jam and The Specials.

Here are a selection of photographs we took over the weekend at the Scooter Rally.
