AN EVENING WITH LULU

AN EVENING WITH LULU

I was invited to The Henley Festival last weekend to see legendary Sixties singer Lulu, boy band Blue and others perform.

The kind invitation was courtesy of Lulu's beauty PR agency. In my other job as a magazine fashion and beauty journalist (I am Beauty Director of Saga magazine and in the past have worked for Vogue, Cosmopolitan and others) I often write about and interview people like Lulu. As she also has an anti-ageing skincare line for face, body and hair I have met with her in the past when she has new products coming out.

Here are some of her fabulous products (pictured below). I particularly like the hair products - I guess she is an expert as she used to be married to hair god John Frieda!

OPERATION GLAM: HAIR PRODUCTS

LULU'S TIME BOMB: SKINCARE PRODUCTS

BOMBSHELL BODY: BODY PRODUCTS

TIME: FRAGRANCE PRODUCTS

Anyway back to our invite to see her perform at Henley: the evening started with drinks and nibbles at new private members club Little House Mayfair (part of the worldwide Soho House chain of clubs). See picture below.

We all sat on the red sofas in the image above. When I say 'we' - there were four other beauty journalists, the PR and her team plus Lulu's incredibly charming sister. As we left to travel to Henley this surprise below greeted us.

Now, a stretch limo might not be to everyone's liking but it was enormous fun as we were stuck on the motorway for over two hours and we were able to chat, drink (only a little of course) and sing...no names mentioned but one beauty journalist got stuck into some Lulu and Dolly Parton songs. Impressive.

When we arrived we then nipped in to the Hotel du Vin in Henley for more drinks and more nibbles but as the service was so dire I won't give them any more blog space.

Then it was off to The Henley Festival where all the men were in black tie and the women in dresses and...wellies. The ground was sodden, the heavens opened but a good time was had by all. Lulu performed all her hits and sang with Blue. Blue then did a few numbers on their own (Lee is still cheeky) and dance group Peridot also performed and were brilliant.

Here are some images from the rest of the night.

THE FLOATING STAGE

UMBRELLAS-A-GO-GO - fortunately the fabulous PRs had bought us all Marc Jacob wellies to wear

BEAUTY JOURNALISTS TRICIA AND EMMA (Catherine and Edwina two other beauty journo's on our trip were a little more camera shy)

Lulu's sister (spot the resemblance) and the PR team having fun - one of the PR team lost her black high-heeled Louboutin shoe in the mud (she was wearing wellies and carrying her heels) but fortunately and miraculously after much searching it was found!!

BACKSTAGE IN LULU'S DRESSING ROOM

ME & LULU

Love Lulu - last time I interviewed her she was gracious enough to call my mother's best friend on the phone and have a chat once she heard she was one of her greatest fans!

A DRAGON POPPED BACKSTAGE: ME AND DUNCAN BANNATYNE

We had a long chat about running a business, his recent marital break up and how fab Lulu is! A funny moment was when Duncan from Blue came backstage and came up to Duncan Bannatyne with the words 'Hello Duncan, I am Duncan'.
