Karl Lagerfeld, iconic Chanel fashion designer, dies

A fashion icon has gone

Working until the very end, German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has passed away at the age of 85.

He was Creative Director of the glossy and luxe fashion houses, CHANEL, Fendi and his own label. Karl helped launch many supermodels, changed the course of fashion advertising and showed how to bring a vintage brand back to being modern.

His signature grey ponytail and dark black sunglasses made him an instantly recognisable global figure.

The House of Karl Lagerfeld says: “Driven by a phenomenal sense of creativity, Karl was passionate, powerful and intensely curious. He further expressed his exceptional talent and artistry through a lifelong passion for photography, publishing, illustration, architecture and interior design.”

Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of Karl Lagerfeld has said: “The world has lost an icon. Karl Lagerfeld was a creative genius; he was influential, curious, powerful and passionate. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy as one of the greatest designers of our time.”

Fashion designer Zandra Rhodes said today: “I think he had an amazing aura about himself. He had a grandeur that was quite fantastic. He always lived up to that aura and looked very exotic with it”

Some of his funnier quotes, below

"Today the world lost a giant among men," said the editor-in-chief of US Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour.

Rest in peace Karl Lagerfeld.
