Oh Downton Abbey, what did we all do on a Sunday night before you came along? This TV series which is filmed at Highclere Castle in Berkshire (there is no Downton) has a nation gripped by its high drama - we long for Matthew and Lady Mary to get it on. Plus, be honest, don't we all want to be best friends with Lady Sybil and have Lady Grantham, Dowager Countess (played by Maggie Smith) as our grandmother?

Here in 2011, the current and real chatelaine of Downton/Highclere is the Countess of Carnarvon who with her wavy blonde hair and jeans-clad body is as far removed from the Grantham's of Downton as you can imagine.

The Countess apparently adores the English beauty brand Willow Organic and in particular the Organic Jasmine and Geranium fragranced products (the oils are sourced in Egypt and Kashmir) which have their connection to Highclere Castle's Egyptian legacy. The 5th Earl, along with Howard Carter, discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings on November 4th 1922. The Castle now houses an exhibition that commemorates this historic event.

The Willow Organic Bath Oil in a glass bottle comes in four different fragrances (including the Jasmine & Geranium favoured by Lady Carnarvon) and is £34 for 100ml.

I quite like the idea that Lady Grantham, played by Elizabeth McGovern, (below) would have wallowed in organic bath oils. But as the series is set pre and during the 1st World War it would have more likely been a basic soap she lathered up with...

If you are not familiar with Willow, their beauty products are made with certified organic ingredients and many have Soil Association Certification. They do not contain parabens, sodium lauryl sulphate, any artificial chemicals or preservatives and the candles are made of 100% natural organic oils (no palm oil is used) and no paraffin. This is all good news. Go try them.
