When I heard that The Body Shop's fragrance White Musk is 30 YEARS OLD this year I had two colliding thoughts:

1) the pretty teenage boy with black curls who bought me my first bottle from The Body Shop in Cambridge - he is now a pilot and divorced

2) how can it be 30 years ago that I first smelt that distinctive musk....it was the White Musk Oil in a little glass bottle, with a yellow tinge, and black lid that I wore for many years and it contained musk, lily, iris, rose and vanilla. Here is the bottle I remember.

Below is how the bottle looks now. Very different.

At the time it was the first cruelty-free musk fragrance on the market and as an animal-loving, vegetarian 13 year old that appealed to me. The Body Shop was the coolest place to shop for beauty in 1981 and you felt like you were changing the world too!

To celebrate 30 years of White Musk, The Body Shop have a new fragrance called White Musk Libertine which will be a permanent addition.

Over to them to describe the scent: "The uniqueness of this fragrance is the way it has been developed; containing 65% of distinct rare musks and at every level of the triangle it really makes it a multifaceted evolving scent, not to mention the other beautiful notes such as the rare Sharry Baby Orchid, Turkish Delight and the decedent Chantilly Cream. The making of the fragrance is a first for The Body Shop; partnering with an important industry fragrance house Firmenich and Dr Vincent Schaller as our ‘nose’."

There will also be White Musk Libertine body care products including a Shower Gel, Body Lotion and Body Mist. The fragrance and body products all contain cruelty-free musk and Community Fair Trade alcohol, with the Body Lotion also featuring Community Fair Trade Shea, Brazil and Babussa Oil.

The Eau de Toilette 30ML will be £9 and 60ML £14; Eau de Parfum 30ML £12; Shower Gel 250ML £8;  Body Lotion 250ML £9; Body Mist 100ML £7. They will all be available from 6th October 2011.
