1920 OLYMPICS IN BELGIUM: THE AUSTRALIAN WOMEN'S SWIMMING TEAM


1928 OLYMPIC IN AMSTERDAM: A CANADIAN ATHLETE CALLED ETHEL CATHERWOOD

In 1928 Ethel became a member of the Matchless Six, a group of seven Canadian women who competed at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, the first Olympics to allow female competitors in athletics. She won Gold in high jump and this was the world's first ever Gold medal awarded to a female high jumper. A New York Times correspondent dubbed her the "prettiest girl athlete" at the 1928 Olympics. 


1932 OLYMPICS IN LOS ANGELES: A GERMAN ATHLETE CALLED ELLEN BRAUMULLER 

Ellen was a track and field athlete and won Silver in Javelin in 1932.


1972 OLYMPICS IN MUNICH: MARY PETERS, BRITISH ATHLETE

She won Gold in 1972 Pentathlon and is now Dame Mary Peters.


1976 OLYMPICS IN MONTREAL: ROMANIAN GYMNAST NADIA COMANECI 

Nadia was the first female gymnast to be awarded a perfect score of 10 in an Olympic gymnastic event. She also won two gold medals at the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympics.


1984 OLYMPICS IN LOS ANGELES: SHIRLEY STRONG BRITISH ATHLETE 

Shirley competed in the 100 metres hurdles in 1984 and won a Silver medal.
